VTP is a Transaction processing software support environment for COBOL programs.

It is a single-threading multitasking system that interfaces to the ICL VME operating system by using RSI facilities.

VTP is compatible with TPE based systems from other ICL machines.

It is also structurally similar to X-tp on Unix and conversion to Unix is a well defined straight forward process.

A VTP system consists of a number of COBOL modules, referred to for historical reasons as BEADS.

It is usual, but not mandatory that each Bead is designed to do all the processing of one screen layout, or screen mask.

VTP and Year 2000

In all tests conducted so far VTP has functuioned correctly with dates in the year 2000 and beyond. This is stated in good faith but without prejudice.

A separate page will document steps taken with which version number in the near future.
